You may want to include more details on which part did you feel confused?
Installing Solaris 8 should be smooth and easy. Are you using Sparc or Intel?
If Sparc:
1.) Put in CDROM 0 for WebStart or CDROM 1/2 for Interactive Install.2.) Go to OBP and type "boot cdrom".
3.) Fill in values when prompted.
If Intel:
1.) Same as Sparc.2.) Boot via CDROM.
3.) Same as above.
Configuration of networking portion is quite straight forward too.
Just a few files:
/etc/inet/hosts - hostname to IP mappings
/etc/nodename - hostname
/etc/hostname. - IP of LAN card
/etc/defaultrouter - Default routes
/etc/nsswitch.conf - Name service switch file
/etc/gateways - static routes for RIPYou may want to try having a go at installing first. It's not as tough as it seems.
