What you downloaded is the ISO images. They will have to be burnt to cd before you can install.

well, i did that like twenty times on two different machines, i created two partition like sun's doc saids, one is boot xr86 something "a", then one is regular solaris. i keep getting this error, /temp.... exceed limit. then i used my dos util to see what is inside, actually i created three partitions, one is boot"a",one is regular, one is 10mb,<--- i don't know where the hell this 10mb comes from, and it is active. i didn't create it.

o, well ok, it deleted every and try one partition and no bootxr.. ok, another 10mb shows up in my partition. i don't know where the hell this 10 mb comes from, it is used as swap slice instead of the one i created for them. i did everything, some how this 10mb mystery partition kills me. any help, Plz!

This is the RAM DRIVE that it created for setup files. You should have 2 paritions. A Swap file partition and a Root partition. The swap file will have to be atleast 350megs. The Root will have to be the active one. If you are installing Solaris 8 then follow the prompts and let it do the work.

I had the same difficulty with first time installation. it turns out that ISO image (3 CDs) also need a "configuration assistant Floppy" to get an appropriate image on your harddirve before installation starts. it took me 2 hours before I could proceed with this operation. I had to search all over internet to find this floppy. once I got it off Asus site, everything worked out fine.
