I have a Microsoft based netwrok with a MS Print server but i also have a SUNBLADE in my netwrok i want to install a Microsoft based network printer on sun solaris 8 please tell me the steps to install a MS network printer on sun solaris. And please give all the detail steps to install this printer on the sun machine.

assuming you are using windows nt or 2000 as your print server... the simple thing to do is this: install the tcp/ip printing service on your windows server (note - you may find it helpfull after the install to un-share all printers and re-share them). once this is running, any ms printer shares will also be available to clients as tcp/ip print ques (ms share name = tcp/ip que). now just set up your printer in solaris, just as you would any direct network or *nix printer.

It is easily done also with Samba on Solaris Compile it or get a package from sunfreeware.org and all Windows machines in a box can easily access printer as it was on NT print server. I have it on Solaris, FreeBSD and Linux and it works great! Good luck

to print from solaris to nt connected printer you do not need samba. 1. add the hostname of nt box to solris in /etc/hosts 2. then use the command lp -d printername:ntname filename this should print the file filename to printer.
