How to install gcc

The root user doesn't need a .profile by default. Its home directory is the root. :) You can use pkgadd to install gcc.

You can download gcc for 2.5-8 (SPARC) or 2.6-8 (Intel) at http://www.sunfreeware.com/ and follow the directions provided with the tar file.

user root hasn't a .profile file but you can generate one and customize for your needs. do as follows log as root
the if you aren't yet # cd then execute # env > /.profile this redirect the output in a .profile file. edit it and delete every line but PATH, MANPATH, add your enviroment vars and export them as needed.

I believe that /etc/.login
exists in solaris which does some basic mail setup etc... for the root user.
Summary: I recently downloaded a copy of solaris 8 from sun. Some how i can't install it. Can any kind people send me some infor on how to install it to mailto://foex13@yahoo.com. any help would be appreciated...
