Dear all:
(1) please tell me the installation of gcc
completely.
(2) where is the location of root user
profile ??

The root user doesn't need a .profile by default. Its home directory is the root. :) You can use pkgadd to install gcc.

You can download gcc for 2.5-8 (SPARC) or 2.6-8 (Intel) at http://www.sunfreeware.com/ and follow the directions provided with the tar file.

user root hasn't a .profile file but you can generate one and customize for your needs.
do as follows
log as root

the if you aren't yet
# cd
then execute
# env > /.profile
this redirect the output in a .profile file.
edit it and delete every line but PATH, MANPATH, add your enviroment vars and export them as needed.

has you successed with gcc compiler installation. If so please says it out. I want to know it man, I the problem exactly as you have.

I believe that
/etc/.login

exists in solaris which does some basic mail setup etc... for the root user.
