Hi, I asked a likely question several days before, but I need a different answer. The question is, I lost the passwd for a machine, root and other users, so,
1. Can I enter into single user model without login (I cannot). Or enter into any state, the delete the passwd in shadowpasswd?
2. The default boot disk is Harddrive, and if I want change it to cdrom, i need goto boot state, how can enter it just let the power on (this is the only thing I can do now for this station, turn off and turn on).

Thanks.

YAO

If the machine has a keyboard connected to it, just use stop a. If it doesnt, connect a laptop to the console and send it a break when it is booting into the OS (on my laptop the break is "fn break"). Then when you get to the ok prompt, just boot into single user mode from cdrom, with boot cdrom -s. Then mount the root partition and edit the files.
