how to bring the system to network

Hello,

Please tell me how to add interface and bring the sytem to network. I did the following:-

Added the Host name to /etc/host.hme0
added ip address and hostname to /etc/hosts

what else I should do?

Run ifconfig -a
See if you address is correct
Check the netmask , address and broadcast are ok.
You should see something like
If all looks ok,
ping 127.0.0.1
is it alive?
ping
is it alive?
Ping

Did you mean /etc/hostname.hme0 and not /etc/host.hme0?
