Hello,

Is there a way to reset a E450 to factory settings?, like jumpers or something. It's just that I've just been trying to install Solaris 8 on a Sun E450. I power up the E450 the machine goes through it BIOS check and fails when it tries to mount root. It then says "skipping system dump - no dump device configured", it then reboots and goes through the same process again. The environment boot variable is set to "disk", how can reset this to "net install" which i think is how its shipped from factory or default.

I am using console connection to the machine using Tera Term so I do not have a Sun Keyboard. I've tried quite a few break sequences and none of them work, so need to reset it somehow.

Any help appreciated.

Many Thanks Mohammed

How about this:

Break + n

Stop + n resets nvram to default on Sun Keybaords. Break is what i've normally seen as a substitute key on non sun keyboards.

do a printenv and see what it is set to.

after that do something like

ok setenv boot-device (what ever you want)

from root you can also use eeprom to do the same thing

Break+A .. does that give you an OK prompt?

If so you just have to do setenv boot-device net

for what you're asking.

Have you tried getting to the ok prompt and doing fsck, then sync? That may recover the filesystem for you.

If Break+A doesn't work, just try others like CTRL+A, ALT+A and so on.. :S I did this a while ago but can't remember the flippin' key sequences.

No, I've just tried those sequences and they do not appear to work using either Tera Term or Hyperterminal.

I have not been able to get the ok prompt since I've had the machine, can't get past this loop.

Many thanks though

In Hyperterminal use "CTRL-Break" to send the stop-A signal to the E450, then use setenv as shown above.
