I'm kinda new at Solaris, so please forgive me for my ignorance.
Every time I boot Solaris, it automatically boots to CDE as root. In addition, it fails to load the Front Panel. When I cd to my home directory, and pwd it says the directory is /var/sadm/webstart, even though my home directory is set to /. The directory contains .Xdefaults, like I believe a home directory would. The Front Panel option in .Xdefaults is set to false. If I set it to "true", it is set back to false upon reboot. I tried reinstalling the system and am having the same problem. The software is Solaris 8, 1/01 for Intel.

you booting off the CD? (sounds like the install script to me) what's a df -k show? home directory for a user should be /export/home/ for standalone, and not generally a good idea to be normally root when new to unix (see 'man su') - so define yourself as a new user (admintool&)
