At present i don't know anything about logging ftp events. I know that logging needs to be enabled on the server and this is done in a config file, but don't know where this file is or what to put in it. I also need to know where the ftp log files are stored. I'm running solaris 8 at the moment. Also does the logging take place on the client side or the senting side.

You need to read manuals for xferlog and in.ftpd

To start logging you to add different options for in.ftpd in /etc/inet/inetd.conf
