I forgot my sun solaris 5.8 version
root password. server model SPARC
ENTERPRICE 250.
I am not able to boot the server bcz
server wants ctrl+d for normal boot
or for maintance give root password.

Forgetting the ROOT password is not good. Do you have another logon ID that has access to the files you need. I would backup your files and reinstall UNIX on it. Otherwise you will need to hack the computer.

I had an issue like that once, mystery Sun server that nobody knows anything about.

I booted it up with a freebsd cd, went to the shell, mounted the drive, copied /etc/passwd & ran it through jack the ripper.

Found it really fast, but it turned out to be a four-character, easy password, heh

Could have use the sun cd and change it.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, Make an autorun.inf folder on all usb drives.
