I forgot my sun solaris 5.8 version root password. server model SPARC ENTERPRICE 250. I am not able to boot the server bcz server wants ctrl+d for normal boot or for maintance give root password. thanks Ardhendu Pls sugest the solution.

Forgetting the ROOT password is not good. Do you have another logon ID that has access to the files you need. I would backup your files and reinstall UNIX on it. Otherwise you will need to hack the computer.

I had an issue like that once, mystery Sun server that nobody knows anything about. I booted it up with a freebsd cd, went to the shell, mounted the drive, copied /etc/passwd & ran it through jack the ripper. Found it really fast, but it turned out to be a four-character, easy password, heh

Could have use the sun cd and change it. "Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, Make an autorun.inf folder on all usb drives.
