dual boot for win98 and sol 7

can anyone plz tell me is it possible for having a dual boot ( win98 and solaris 7) on the same hdd. if yes then how? if no then plz tell me the best possible solution so as to save my data.

Yes no problem. It's easy. I have win 98, redhat and solaris 7 on the same hdd. Start solaris install. Make at least three partitions (if 98 and solaris). 98 on one. Swap and solaris on the two other. Make sure to select the solaris bootloader (it is really nice and lets you choose the right partition at start up). After solaris is installed. Install win 98 on the partition you made earlier. If you want linux (or think you might want in the future make sure to partition four partitions). Linux is a little bit trickier since you have to call the linux swap partition something else during the solaris install since otherwise it will use that partition. Hope this helped.

At docs.sun.com solaris 7 installation collection solaris 7 (intel platform edition)installation library there is a document: "preserving existing operating systems and user data" you also might get some info from. One more thing: if you don't have linux on some other computer you really should consider to install it as well or instead of solaris. Linux is perfect (ok redhat is not the best one but choose another) Good luck
