DT messaging error

I recently upgraded my Sun E250 from Solaris 7 to Solaris 8. Since then I cannot login using any account besides the root account unless I telnet into it. The accounts work using terminal simulators, but if I try to login for example using a Sunray I get the following error: The DT messaging sytem could not be started. 1) Choose OK to return to the login screen. 2) Select fail safe session and login. 3) Check to see that the hostname is correct in these locations: /etc/src.sh /etc/hosts /usr/adm/inetd.sec
The only file that exists is /etc/hosts and the hostname is fine there. Has anyone got a fix for this?

Do the users home directories exist with permissions they can access?

Their home directories are working fine. They can telnet into their accounts and use them without any problem. This problem only occurs when they try to log directly into the server or they use a Sunray or Ultra 5/10.
