explain what you are trying to do. is this for home network if so you need to edit /etc/resolv.conf and put in nameserver and ip address from provider. edit /etc/nsswitch.conf and put dns entry see following
hosts files dns
edit /etc/defaultrouter put ip of router if using one
edit /etc/hosts put ip and name of router.
Hope this is what your looking for.
CA.

I have an Ultra10 need to access internet through cable. I know how to setup DNS client on solaris. The thing is my ISP always change their DNS server IP. Maybe they have DNS server pool. Now what I'm doing is put all the DNS server IP addresses into the /etc/resolv.conf file. In windows, There is an automatic DNS server obtaion option. I'm wondering if there is a similar way in Solaris.
Many thanks for your response. Scott

If you are a dhcp client you will obtain automatically dns. if you have static ip you have to use manual dns server's ip in /etc/resolv.conf.
use ifconfig command to force renewal of your ip leasd and get the dns changed arrdess. ofcourse you can use pool in ure resolv.conf line by line.
