I am running short on disk space on /var and need to allocate more space. Would you give me the command to use and the proper syntax.

Can't "grow" a regular ufs filesystem like that. You probably just need to trim some logfiles and setup a log rotate cron job to keep doing that for you. Otherwise you will need to move /var to a larger partition on the boot disk. Should NOT move /var to a different disk. Email direct for more.
