HI, i'm searching for a quota program for my solaris 8 system. It should be possible to limit a directory instead of limitations of users disc-space. And of course it should be possible to increase and decrease the quota on this directory.

You could have a cron job running to run a script which checks the size of the specific directory you want, and mails you an alert if it's exceeded. You could also remove write permissions to the directory should it be near or exceeding the limit you want.

It's just a matter of a simple conditional test. :)

Hi Paul,
There are no tool for that (on command line), but you could create soft partitions on Solaris8 using Solstice DiskSuite 4.2.1 (sw RAID, on CDROM Solaris Installation sw 2 of 2) with its latest patch level. Solaris9 comes with just the same renamed program called Solaris Volume Manager (sw RAID), which allows you to create Soft Partition Volumes as a separated home directories for each of your users on the system, without patching the system. You may increase the size of the volume on the fly, but you can't decrease it later without destroying whole soft partition volume first.
