Hi there!
I run my Sun(s) with SunOS 5.6 in an NT4 environment An NT 4 Server provides DHCP and DNS services. The Sun is setup as a DHCP and DNS client. For the Sun obviously does not retriev a correct Hostname I added a manual override (uname -S) in the startup files. Now from the Sun side everything works fine.
From any of the NT systems I can ping the Sun by it's ip address but not by it's (dns) name.

I'm not sure you fix will work. Say you have two Suns and you name them sun1 and sun2. If they are on DHCP, they could pull a different IP address each time but they would still be called sun1 and sun2. How will your DNS server cope with the change of IP address?
