I'm very new to Unix so I'm a bit confused about all I've read regarding networking. I'm trying to connect a SUN Ultra 10 using Solaris 5.7 to an XP PC using a crossover cable. I've got the IP address set at 10.0.0.3 for the PC and I type (using super user) "ifconfig hme0 10.0.0.5" on the unix. I still can't see the unix machine! I've set subnet as 255.255.255.0 on both machines. What am I doing wrong? Please help!!

Run ifconfig -a and see what it says.

I have the same issue here. How can I connect XP to Solaris using terminal emulator? I am using Tera Term and I don't know the Commands to view the Solaris Configuration. Is Log in required to view configuration at all? Thanks.
