Comment:

I am running Solaris 2.6 on a Sun Sparc2 system. I am trying to verify the results of 2 different commands to determine CPU processor speed. Are both the "banner" and the ".speed" commands at the OK prompt reading the same source for the information, or does the ".speed" command perform some sort of test of the CPU to determine the speed?

Reply:

cd /usr/platform/sun4u/sbin
./prtdiag

gives you processor speed and each ram chip in bank 0 and 1, add them for total ram
I have 8 128mb chips=1 gig ram
2 procesors 400mhz example:

# ./prtdiag
System Configuration: Sun Microsystems sun4u Sun (TM) Enterprise 250 (2 X UltraSPARC-II 400MHz)
System clock frequency: 100 MHz
Memory size: 1024 Megabytes
