guys, i need help over here , i'm going nuts, here is the problem , i configured my box to use DHCP , now when i type hostname i get unknown , i know some of you guys might say oh you need to edit the init.d/network and change the word unknow to the hostname you want , agreed , but what i guess i really need to know is why the sun box at work , have same version as solaris 8 and i can type hostanme (new hostname) and change it to anything i want but the init.d/network still says unknow , but when i do that in my machine and reboot by usiong init 6 it goes back to unknown . what i'm trying to say here is , when i type hostname (new hostname) and i reboot it goes back to unknow ? WHY .Thanks in advance

Depends a lot on your dhcp server. The one I use here binds the hostname and ip address to a mac address. The box comes up knowing everything.
