I upgraded to Solaris 8 everthing was going fine and i all of the sudden I get a message that comes up everytime i try to log into CDE
that says
The DT Messaging could not be started
to correct the problem log in a failsafe sessionand check the following files

/etc/src.sh
/etc/hosts
/usr/adm/inetd.sec

the only one of the files that exists is the host file and it is correct

One thing before this started happening i did change the ip address by changing the host file

anyone got any ideas

Are you on a network, and are using both NIS and DNS?

If yes, then edit the /etc/nsswitch.conf file so the hosts section is as follows:

hosts: dns nis files

I had this issue when I had "problems" with my host name lookups. $cp /etc/nsswitch.files /etc/nsswitch.conf

$nslookup hostname

and you should get your own IP back.
