I am a solaris novice. I have a Sunfire V100 server that wont boot from disk or CD-ROM in both cases I get the error "Cant open boot device" the server is brand new so I dont suspect hardware problems.

I need a way to get out of this and re-install the operating system. There is no data on the server so I have no problem starting over.

There are several refrences to this error on many site but no exact work around.

Thanks,

hi,
you must check boot-device value with command
:
printenv
in ok mode .
for ok mode use key stop+A.

regards

Thanks for your reply.

However I remain stuck. I have tried setting boot-device to disk and to cdrom and I still have the same error.

If anyone else has suggestions please pass them on. Im perfectly willing to blow the machine away and re-install...if I knew how to do it!

hi,
in command probe-ide system must display types of IDE devices and addresses that system detected.

you must checkout hardware connector and connection dirve and cdrom in your machine is correct ?

Hassan I spoke with Sun tech support this morning. They determined that its a hardware issue and will be sending me a replacement server. Thanks for your help.
