I have the following error on boot up: starting rpc service: rpcbindkeyserv failed to generate host's name when establishing root's key. Can someone help me get a system connected to the internet via dns? I'm not able to browse using HotJava or Netscape with Solaris 7 / Ultra 10. I've created a /etc/defaultrouter for the gateway, updated the /etc/netmasks file, and double checked all other related files, including the resolv.conf, etc. I'm able to ping my router and dns, but not browse. Does anyone know what I'm missing? Is this related to the above bootup message?

Well, you caught the networks line omission, thanks. However, this did not fix my problem, even on a reboot. Anything else I'm missing?

Tanya,

I connect to the net at home on my U60. I go through a linksys router that I used as my "gateway" The only things I have set are:

/etc/resolv.conf
/etc/defaultrouter
/etc/nsswitch.conf

How does your routing table look, on a netstat -rn

Works: though its really slow connecting and times out half the time when trying to find a webpage. I'm much closer, though!

thanks

1) put an `if` statement in the startup script. Test to see if an
/etc/.rootkey (and/or if the domain is set) exists, is so then start keyserv,
else return.

2) or Set the domainname. (example: domainname )
Then make sure the domainname gets set at bootup. (example: domainname >
/etc/defaultdomain

3) or make keyserv non-executable so it does not startup if you are sure
you don't need it (like in this case).
