Can't mount root partition: Installation

Hey, I'm running a P4 1.4GHz, 128 RAM, Quantum FireBall AS HD 40Gb & Quantum Fireball CX. I have RedHat Linux, Windows ME, and XP. When i try to install Solaris it goes through al the Hardware config. stuff then when it asks me to choose the place for solaris to be placed, i choose my Fisrt HD (Primary (ive also tried my second)) it says Error: mounting to root paritition;
Message from mount:
/pci@0,0/pci-ide@lf.l/ide@0/cmdk@1,0:a:can't open - no VTOC
if anyone knows how to fix this please help!

from install software, you need to load basic unix shell, then reformat this drive. (Virtual Table Of Contents....VTOC)

I think you have to change the HD mode to normal and give it a try!
