hi all...
im new to Solaris and im finding it impossible to get on internet.
ive searched many related subjects posted here but none have helped so far. so this is my problem.im on a small network sharing a cable connection via a Linksys router . when i ping the router it says its unreachable.
upon running command ifconfig -a result is,
lo0: flags=1000849<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST,IPv4> mtu 8232 index 1is "lo0" the interface?
upon reading sugestion from replies of similar topics in this forum ive done the following but to no success:
#touch /etc/hostname.lo0
#touch /etc/dhcp.lo0
#touch /etc/defaultrouter (then added routers' IP address on that file 192.168.1.1)rebooted, lost hostname (uparently common), on bootup error "Interface lo0 cant be started, configuration incomplere or invalid."
If someone can help, i would appriciate it without limit.

Are you using a NIC card? what card you are using!
i m sorry to say but your system can not find any NIC.
The interface is loopback and can not send your packets out side of your computer.
you don;t need to make any /etc/hostname.xxx file until you know the correct name of your NIC card;s driver. like elx , elxl , iprb, cnft, rtls and many more, plug in the solaris compatiable NIC into ure machine and use a reconfigure boot, if you get device in ure /dev use ifconfig plumb "device driver name" and then make a file /etc/hostname.interface file put an IP in the file. make ifconfig interface ipaddress, and at last use ifconfig interface up.wish you good luck

hi florocent,
thanks for replying,
you are right i dont think Solaris can see my NIC, which is "Broadcom NetXtreme Fast Ethernet (10/100)".
strange though because on bootup Solaris does not reise any errors about the NIC being unknown etc.
i take it i need to install the NIC driver then proceed configuring the DHCP?
is there a generic NIC driver that Solaris 9 would accept? Broadcom does not have a driver for Solaris, only Linux.
Cheers

Have a look at the Solaris hardware compatability list to see if there is support for what you plan to buy. The 3c905 cards work nicely.
