Hi all,
I have a problems when trying to boot from the cdrom. I'm tryning to upgrade from Solaris 8 -> Solaris 9. I'm using a Sunblade 100.When i typed boot cdrom The following messages appeared.
boot cdrom /pci@1f,0/ide@d/cdrom1,0:f File and args: Can't read disk label Can't open disk label package Can't open boot device
I can see that the system finds the cdrom by doing a probe-ide.
ok probe-ide Device 0 (Primary Master) ATA Model : ST315320A . . Device 2 (Secondary Master) Removable ATAPI MODEL:LTN 485S
devalias cdrom2 /pci@1f,0/ide@d/cdrom@2,0:f cdrom1 /pci@1f,0/ide@d/cdrom@1,0:f cdrom /pci@1f,0/ide@d/cdrom@1,0:f
I have also tried to replace the cdrom-player, ide-bus but with the same messages as above. I have tried different cd media (Solaris 8, Solaris 9). We have got 4 Sunblades 100 with the same problem, so I doubt this is a hardware problem or?
I've tried to boot from Solaris 8 Software disk 1, Solaris 9 Software disc 1 and the install cd's as well (all original cds from SUN) . But I get the same problem.
I have tried "boot cdrom2" since probe-ide sees it as device 2, but with no success.
Any ideas?

Some machine have this kind of problem while booting solaris 8 installition (web start).
Try it on another main board(machine) with different chipset.
.ed.
