Hello, I have a Sun Ultra 5.
I am posting because I am trying to install Debian Linux on it and it does not seem to
want to boot from cdrom. When I try to boot from cdrom (boot cdrom at the ok prompt), I get the following error:
[Start Output]
Bad magic number in disk label
Can't open disk label packageCan't open boot device
[End Output]
I get the same output when I try and boot from a floppy. Both of these (floppy and cdrom) have a valid boot record that will boot on my PC.
When I do a 'test-all', It starts with scsi@1,1 and it putputs the following over and over (resulting in me having to reboot the computer.)
[Start output]
BUS FAULT
BUS FAULT
BUS FAULT
[End Output]
What is a bus fault? How can I correct it? Any help would be appreciated.
Thank youRegards,
Justin S Givens

There's a Debian-Sparc mailing list that would probably be of more value to you. You can subscribe at http://www.debian.org/MailingLists/subscribe (it's about 3/4 of the way down the page, under the "Ports to non-i386 Linux architectures and to non-Linux kernels" heading), or you can search the archives at http://lists.debian.org/search.html; be sure to change the filter to "sparc".
Having said that, I can tell you up front that the problem you're having is that you're trying to boot a Sparc machine off an i386 binary, and it ain't gonna work. They're two different chips. I say this because you say the media will boot on your PC. Just as your PC media won't boot a Macintosh, it won't boot a Sparc.
You'll need to download a Sparc-flavored .ISO and burn it to a new CD that you can then use to boot the Ultra 5.
Hope this gets you going in the right direction.
