Hi all,

I am trying to boot my sunbalde 100 box from CD ROM, but keep getting the message

Bad magic number in disk label
Can't open disk label package
Can't open boot device

Is there any sites where I can download the installation disk 1 and 2? Thank you.

Have you looked at sun.com ? They at least used to have downloadable iso files for solaris 8 ( sparc version ), although they may have replaced the 8.x version with 9.x

Solaris is preinstalled on the Sun Blade 100 workstation. If reinstalling Solaris 8 10/00 or Solaris 8 1/01 for any reason, the corresponding Solaris Operating Environment CD (OECD) must be used:

OECD 10/00 (704-7610)
OECD 1/01 (704-7617)

8 - 4/01 does not need the supplement.

Thank you very much for the replies. When I inherited this box, the root password is lost and I don't have any OECD for it. Is there any other way that I can reset the root password besides booting from OECDs? I can access the system as a regular user.

I checked on Sun's site. They have Solaris 9 for download at http://wwws.sun.com/software/solaris/binaries/get.html. Can I boot from this file?

Your help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Yes, I believe the blade will be happy with solaris sparc v 9. Download, unzip, burn the CDs and try it.
