I am trying to do a solaris upgrade on a Ultra 60. I do an init 0 and then tell it to boot cdrom. It loads the file from the solaris 8 installation cd and then it say, the file loaded does not appear to be executable. Then it load up the machine normally. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Thanks

Mike

Have you tried copying the contents of the cd-rom to /tmp and run the command (as root) chmod +x 'xxx' where 'xxx' is the installation setup script?

Then you could possibly run the upgrade in init level 0 from /tmp.

I may be completely wrong on this as I have never done an upgrade before.

Is there a readme file on the cd-rom? It may help.

Did you burn the CDs yourself? If so they may not have been done correctly and therefore are not seen as bootable...? just a thought.

You hit the problem right on, the cd has not been burned as a bootable cd. This is part of Solaris instructions.
