Hi there.
I have a problem with my Solaris system. It is freshly installed and everything seemed to be ok when I installed it but when I login in X Window (wether XSun server or XFree86) The loading screen with the Solaris Image and the "Loading CDE" or "Loading OpenWindow" is extremly long.Once it is loaded, I have my usual background for about 5 seconds, then all of a sudden it disappear and all I have is the system ressource meter in the uper right corner.
If I insert a CD or a floppy, the brownsing window opens but there is no general shell interface.
It is the second time I get this problem after installation.
Of course, I don't want to reinstall the whole thing. I've managed to get a successful installation between my to "failed" attempts but I had to reinstall because I totally changed my disk layout.
Anybody can help me on this one?
Regards,
Dominick Demers

there is a problem with web start in solaris 8 on fast machines (i've seen it work fine on slow ones) in that the graphical screen comes up after the webstart program has activated.
log in as single user mode 'b -s' at the boot screen and 'cd' to the /etc/init.d directory
then rename 'webstart' to something else
'reboot' and the system will then come up properly.
you will then need to manually install CD 2 (or you could just run the renamed web start
