Dear all: I have a adsl modem, how to config in solaris8 (x86 intel) so that connect to internet (ISP give me a ip address) ?? In linux, there is a pppoe software, I know, and it works very well, But solaris8 (x86) seems failure..... gcc compile source error...can't generate pppod....

personally I opted for the easy way and got a DSL router with switch and plugged my sun box into that... then just edit the appropriate files to allow net access thru it...

1- you need solaris 8 release 10/01 2- you need a file in /etc/ppp/pppoe.if with the name of NIC connect to adsl 3 in the same directory put your user name your isp and your passwd in the pap-secrets file 4 in /etc/ppp/peers copy the template in yourisp and put this

Hello, Mark & IceFire, I have similiar problem. Would any one of you can help me out? I set up Solaris 8 behind ADSL modem and ADSL router. I only set up the following files: /etc/defaultrouter ==> 192.168.0.1 /etc/resolv.conf ==> domain gte.net domain server 4.2.2.1 domain server 4.2.2.2
After that, I can ping other site's IP, but I can't surf thru netscape. Any suggestion will be be appreciated.
