hi to all sol 7 on intel i had 3com (3c905) nic installed , i downloaded the driver from 3com site and follow the ints. (copy the driver file then run the file elbc.pkg ) after that it says successfully installed but after that it says "link failed" i cant understand what is this ? now i want to assign ip to check whether connection is o.k or not ? how can i proceed? is it possible through gui mode bcoz my gui is o.k .tell me both ways command line and gui . pls mail to me also if possible sm_adeel@hotmail.com

i donot understand how do u install ur nic card
but if ur saying that u have installed the lan card , then u can check ur lan card by
#ifconfig nic name and ip
like # ifconfig hme0 202.5.36.9
this command will tell u that wheather ur lan card is ok or not if u r problem wouldnot not solve than tell me i would try to solve ur problem .

I got the same error message 'link failed' with a 3com 905 on solaris 8x86. The reason was due to me altering the config file for the driver, ie messing with the 10/100mbs and full/half duplex settings.
Try editing /kernel/drv/elxl.conf and playing with the settings until one works for you.

Hi , I am using 3Com 3c905C series card on intel D845WN motherboard using Solaris8.0. The NIC is well detected by solaris and the card also pings itself but when i try to ping some other machine on network ping request fails. There is some problem with the network broadcast. Please help me out of it .
