For those of you searching for answers to the vsmon.exe problem eating all your processor time, I have the solution! Sorry if this has been posted before but I couldn't find any reference to it, and when I tried to make it a follow-up to the original thread and couldn't (see below). Anyway, the answer was posted in a thread on the ZoneLabs website, and refers to a MS KB article about this problem. Follow these instructions:
"Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 321434
On a computer that is running Microsoft Windows NT or later, use Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe). To do so, click Start, click Run, and then type regedt32.
Locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\vsmonNOTE: Vsmon is a service that is installed by ZoneAlarm Pro.
In the right pane, double-click DependOnService.
In the Edit Multi-String dialog box, you will see a list of items that might include Afd, RpcSs, and Vsdatant. Add W3SVC to the end of this list, and then click OK."From: http://forum.zonelabs.org/zonelabs/board/message?board.id=gen&message.id=7409
I am posting this to a new thread because I got the following message when trying to add it to the original thread (which appeared on a Google search):
ERROR: Old Message

And what exactly am I dong to the firewall monitor when I add that key to the registry?
Does it not take up system resources because it is looking at the information? Do I really want it to stop looking at that information?
Seriously. I'm befuddled as to what this will do.

Normal memory usage for Zone Alarm's vsmon.exe is between 5K and 6K.Example: 5,012K (virtual memory size), 5,732K (regular memory usage).
