ZoneAlarm Pro question

Comment:

I am using ZoneAlarm Pro version 3.0.118 on a Dell Inspiron 8100 with Windows XP Home.
I have had a problem with IE 6.0 and MSN Explorer 6.0 on numerous sites where I see only a red X in a frame.
I have tried:
emptying my offline content, temporary files and history
cleared Forms
unchecked Enable Install IE on demand
Show Pictures is checked
Internet Options/Advanced "Java JIT Compiler enabled" is checked

After fooling with the IE6 settings, to no avail, I rebooted then shutdown ZoneAlarm Pro. I logged back into the internet and my problem was gone.
Every image displays as it should, everytime.

So now my question is this: Which ZA Pro setting is causing this problem?
I guess I'll reduce the Privacy settings and start with the Pop-up Ad suppression to see what happens. (Pop-up Ad suppression seems like a good
place to start as it is a new feature in ZA Pro.)

I also have a secondary issue with ZA: ZoneAlarm functions correctly but when I boot up it takes forever to start. Everything else is loaded and ready to go but it takes another 3 -4 minutes for ZA to initialize. Is this normal? If I attempt to start my dialup connection (still waiting for cable access) it just hangs up the whole PC and I end up having to reboot.

This isn't a big problem but XP does boot up a lot faster than my old WIN98SE ever did, but ZA started a lot sooner in the boot up process. Just wondering if there is something I can do to improve this.

I used to use ZAP but it made my W2k system unstable, I Liked the features, but hate it when my comp freezes or shuts down sporadically.

anyway, one of the (many) issues that I have read about and experienced with ZAP is the long boot up time. ZAP sets itself as a service on w2k (and probably on xp) if you have the load at startup box checked in ZAP. Try unchecking that option. If you need or want ZAP opened automatically, copy a shortcut of ZAP exe into your startup menu. This will automatically start it up on boot but without making it a service.

by the way, I switched to tiny personal firewall and my machine is giving me less stability problems, but it is more of a hassle with my p2p programs, constantly asking for rights....

good luck

btw, to uncheck that option, right click on the zap icon in sys tray and go to preferences...

if you decided to get rid of Zone Alarm Pro, be careful how you uninstall it, doing a normal uninstall from add/remove programs could cause problems. Check out the zone alarm web site for more information on how to uninstall or check out this site
http://www.btinternet.com/~splyons/problems.html
for advice on how to uninstall. I followed their instructions and had no problems with the uninstall. Research!

I fixed the first problem (non-displaying images) by doing what this site suggests.
