i installed zonealarm pro and within 1 month i had over 1000 intrusions of which over 300 were highly related. is this normal? what could cause this. i then tried a different version of zone alarm and within 20 minutes i had 46 intrusions of which 19 were high. please help...

It is normal activity. I would suggest that you use the following settings for ALERTS&LOGS > Alert Events Shown = Informational Alerts-OFF > Event Logging-ON >Program Logging-High. This way you are protected, and you can also use the logged information if you come under a single multiple attack, which is what one has to be concerned about. Otherwise the reports will drive you nuts. Take care and all the best!

Hello "M"
You have to know than a firewall is able only to protect your computer from undesirable incoming internet flux, but of course not from "Cookies" which are installed on your system without your agrement. Many of them are known to be "cookies spywares" which spread themselfs very quickly on your internet and of course just low all your connexion.
I suggest your download as soon as possible a wonderful program freeware called "AdAware" to be able to clean all your registry of your computer.
You will be surprised by the number of cookies spywares hiden on your system as "key's registry"
you find AdAware at: www.lavasoftusa.com
don't forget to download as well the small program called "ReUpdate" to be able to update AdAware with new cookies signatures database....

Since Opaserv, most of these blocked intrusions are from that worm. In your logs, if you see anything from UDP or port 137, most likely, it was Opaserv. About 75% of my blocks come from that worm.

About AdAware - it is very outdated now. No updates since September. A better program is Spybot Search & Destroy, also freeware from here:
