I uninstall Zone Alarm everyhting starts normal. How do i fix this? And don't tell me to keep ZAP uninstalled thats not a good answer.

There have been many reported problems with version 5.x, if you have problems, get version 4.5.594 from here...

Hi Christopher and Wombat; not sure if this will help, but there is a newer update and supposedly fix to that Zone Alarm 5.0 that was quite problematic.
The newer version out now is 5.0.590.015 .
Sorry I don't know anything about this particular version, as I am staying with the older version 4.5 for now.
Take care,

Tommyo, thanks for the tip on (the new and improved) ZA 5.

The new version did not fix the problem with NAV2004 for me, stay with 4.5. One interesting thing is that I found. Zone Labs is offering 5.0 with an antivirus program that is from Computer Associates as a package. IMHO, it is not a bad deal for the $19.95 offer they had. However, Zone Alarm pro 5.0 fails to report that ETrust is updated on two of my systems that I have it installed on, so I wonder if the security package has this shortcoming too. It does not really do anything but annoy me, as security and peformance are not impacted, like with my NAV systems.

Christopher:
Try it this way: uninstall ZA, then uninstall Norton, then install ZA, then install Norton. If it still doesn't work, uninstall Norton and get AVG free edition.
Norton's a pain. If I were going to spend money on an AV (I use free AVG by Grisoft) I'd get Nod 32--best grades in class.
Norton is also a resource hog, and it is already bloated. If you use the Norton Utilities they can and do get in the way of downloads. here's a tip on downloading:
Downloading Tip:
One other thing I do on downloading is, after you get the download (M$ does not structure its downloads so you can’t do this for some reason on an MS download), after download BEFORE YOU CLICK THE INSTALL ICON, #1. log off the net, #2. disable AV (right click tray icon), #3. then ctrl-alt-delete to close AV in close-program, THEN (and only then) #4. click on the install procedure. Otherwise your AV might read the install as an invader and mess with it. Then I manually shut down for two full minutes, and restart.
It got to a point with me where I just uninstalled the NSW for a download and eventually just got rid of it.
Thresher

Christopher, my version of Zone Alarm is 5.0.590.043. Give this a try open Zone Alarm>programs>components>access. Scroll down and check to see if all the Symantec/NAV components have a green checkmark granting access. If you see a blue question mark, left click and select allow. Then restart and see if NAV works. NAV 2003 works on my daughters system with Zone Alarm pro.

Thresher,.
Uninstall NAV2003? Thats not good to uninstall things and reinstall them. Most of the time they still stay in the registry especialy NAV. I will try what capt said first. And one more thing. Norton is the best. I have no trouble with it hogging rescources.Thnaks

Christopher, if ZA5.0 is still conflicting with NAV, uninstall it and go back to version Zone Alarm pro 4.5. DO NOT INSTALL ANY FREE VERSION OF ZONE ALARM! It has its own licensing information that will conflict with your pro license when you reinstall Zone Alarm pro. Version 4.5 will keep your system quite safe and protected, until Zone Labs gets things sorted out. You might want to send them screenshots and any other information you have to assist them in ironing things out. My favorite version of Zone Alarm pro was 3.7. It used to come as part of the EZArmor package from Computer Associates, that came with the free Microsoft Update CD offer. Version 4.5 now comes with that offer, and you have a choice of using the free version or paying extra for the pro version of that free one year package.

Hi,
I just started a new thread on 5.0 problems, to ask about the free software specifically, and whether I should assume all version number problems/solutions also apply to the free versions.
But I wanted to mention here that the number of the free version I have is also 5.0.590.015, which I saw recommended as better above. I do have a problem with it, that brought me here. I get what I am pretty sure are false alerts, saying that programs I try to let access the Internet "...have CHANGED since last time!" So, still some problem(s) with it I'd say (if there are others I haven't noticed them yet). But maybe y'all are looking for "better," not "perfect." :^ )
