I'am by far no expert, so forgive the ignorance. When I downloaded and installed zone alarm I let it help me set up rules, everything worked great, but after my computer has been idle for some time I am unable to access the internet, use AIM, yahoo instant messege, etc.....in order to get online I need to set the internet zone slider to medium, then everything is fine, even if I put the slider back to High everything continues to work until my computer has been idle for some time, then same problem. I have turned off hibernation, and all power saving settings.
Sorry to any one that uses ZA, but this is NORMAL!! It happens to 100's of people.. I worked for an ISP for 3 years and not one day when by when some one called in for this same issue. Here is what to do. Disable ZoneAlarm, then re-enable it. That should fix it for the time being, if that fails and it does happen, remove it from your system. It will most likely prevent you from getting back online. You now need to reinstall it and you should be able to get online. My next suggestion is to remove it, and chuck it across the street. If all of this fails when its complete gone from you system, you will need to rebuild you tci/ip stack. I don’t suggest this unless you have help.
Like ulaoulao said, totally uninstall Zone Alarm (make sure you remove all of it or another firewall will not work). Then if you want to you can D/L Comodo Firewall, it is totally free and apparently has no security leaks, which were done by testing. They have email tech support and are quite prompt in replying.
I'm using it now that Sygate got bought out by Norton and it seems to work really well so far.
Good luck.
Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks
Try turning off the timed firewall lock under program control ,automatic lock , custom button ....
Thanks for the replies, I took everyones suggestion and got rid of zone alarm, I then installed Sygate version 5.6, so far so good! all I need to do is go to PCFlank and test it, thanks again!
