Zone Alarm has been working well for years, but on Friday, 2.16 it would NOT complete loading and the systray icon did not appear; the "Zone Alarm .... within minutes" window kept appearing and disappearing. Successfully uninstalled the app, dld the replacement, zlsSetup-61-744-001-en.exe which is the latest version to run on Win98 according to CheckPoint/ZoneLabs, but I can't get it or any other, earlier version of FrEE Zone Alarm to install -- get the messsages UNABLE TO CONNECT TO TRUEVECTOR SERVICE-CANNOT CONFIGURE ACCESS RULES. and "ERROR PROCESSING CONFIG FILE" plus "cANNOT COMPLETE ....... close the service manager and restart the installation." What to do? Workaround? patch? system fix? Run AV almost daily, completed successfully, plus AdAware,Spyware Blaster, and SpyBot-Search and Destroy run weekly - ran Friday without detecting any problems. Any suggestions for other free personal firewalls instead of Zone Alarm? BTW- The new help files for versions 61737000, 61744000, as well as 61744001 all state WindowsXP is the "oldest" version that Zone Alarm will run on - not Win95, win98, win98se, or winME. Thanks. If you had Zone Alarm installed before some file of ZA must be remaining in the system. ZA can be very difficult to completely remove. I suggest hat you try Sygate. You can get it from this address; http://www.oldversion.com/program.p...

Newer versions of Zone alarm will remove basicly everything it installed.
