When my computer boots up, the three icons that load up are my spyware, anti-virus and Zone Alarm The first two load up within 5 seconds, but Zone Alarm takes about 45 seconds for the icon to appear by the clock. If you try to click on something, nothing will happen until the Zone Alarm icon is loaded. Does anyone else have this experience? Does anyone know how to shorten the load time?

It could be waiting for other background programs to load first. Worth checking in msconfig to see what you've got there.
Sometimes programs can be set to just run from a shortcut when required and not load up and run all the time.

I have the same issue with Zone Alrm Pro , but I have grown to accept it the way it is
As long as it loads and protects me it is fine if it take a few extra seconds to load" It'll Get Ya When You Aint Lookin "

I only show 5 items at Startup in msconfig. My virus, spyware, java, logitech mouse and zone alarm. I eliminated, for tests purposes, all but logitech mouse and zone alarm. It now loaded around 38 seconds. I guess I will go along with BigBoy Bob thesis and just be patient. Thanks guys.

ZA Pro did that when I had it. Due to other ZA problems, I replaced it with Sygate, which is also slow to load. Don't really see this as a problem, though.

Could you go into some detail about the problems you experienced with zonealarm pro other than whats been discussed here.It was obviously enough for you to change. As for zonealarm taking along time to load, let me mention one that doesn't, Kerio personal 4.It can be set to protect during startup and shutdown and i've seen it work. When my desktop appears after startup, who's the first one in the tray, yes Kerio. As Mikey used to say " Try it, you'll like it".

I was using ZA Pro v5.01, I know that. I can't remember what the problems were. They started when I built this computer and bought a new MS XP, sp2. I sent several messages to ZA tech support and their help didn't help at all. Anyway I attributed the problems to ZA not liking SP2, told ZA if they couldn't fix it I'd use something else. BTW, the ZA forum at the time had a lot of posts concerning some of the same problems I was having, but no solutions. My personal opinion is that a lot of the companies that had very good firewall, AV, etc have hurt themselves by trying to make that product multi-purpose. The good programs are just turning into "bloatware" that doesn't do any one job very well. Excuse the rant, and sorry I couldn't be more specific, just don't remember.
