I have problems after trying to install Fprot Internet Security. During install it asked me if I wanted it to 'remove' something called 'Cisco', which I later found out was related to ZoneAlarm and TrueVector. I said yes and the result was that my machine would hang every time upon re-boot.

I uninstalled Fprot but still had problems on re-boot. I uninstalled and then re-installed ZoneAlarm, but now every time I re-boot ZoneAlarm tells me there is a system error, and it fails to initiate any security.

I subsequently removed all traces of ZoneAlarm, Fprot and all other erroneous registry entries in an attempt to solve the problem, but still ZoneAlarm refuses to run correctly due to this re-ocurring 'system error' involving TrueVector.

It's a nightmare scenario. There must be something that is not coming out of my registry when uninstalling ZoneAlarm nor when removing all registry keys I can find relating to it.

I have removed all keys under 'ZoneAlarm', VSMON, ZoneLabs, along with the Fprot keys and 'datafellows'. All clean it seems... but then again obviously not.

Can anyone suggest another set of keys I might look for to strip out, in order to help me get a fully 'clean' installation of ZoneAlarm and the TrueVector engine?

What time window is all this taking up? Perhaps a restore of the registry the cleanest option?

I would download the free trial of System Mechanic 4 from download.com. If that program doesn't find the zonealarm keys, nothing will.

Before running System Mechanic 4, I would check my C:\Program Files folder to make sure the "Zone Labs" folder is gone. Then check C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ for a "ZoneLabs" folder. If they are there, I would rename them (to something like Zonelabs 2) instead of just deleting them. That way I can get them back easily if I need them.

I don't know what folders Fprot might have created during install, but I'd get rid of those too.

Then let System Mechanic fix the registry, reboot and reinstall Zonealarm.

Hello fellow sufferers –
I’ve used the free version of Zone Alarm in both a Win98 and a WinXP Home with no problem until the recent updates. I was pulling my hair out (which I can ill afford) trying to get the XP to finish its Win boot. NAV was disabled; drives past the C:/ were unavailable, etc. After sometimes 5 or 6 reboots and a wait of 15 minutes or so it would finally finish the load. I finally figured out it was caused by Zone Alarm and missing True Vector file(s). A complete uninstall has fixed the problem. You get what you pay for I suppose.
