Reply: (edit) Perhaps, my sentence above is not clear. What i mean with 'flawless' on that context above is ZA works no matter on dial up, cable, etc....it doesnt depend on the kind of connection. Of course all software products have its own flaw, since there is no perfect here.
On my system, after using it for more than 2 years, I havent got any problem with ZA. Just make sure you read all the installation-uninstallation guide of ZA, than ZA wont give u problem.

Reply: (edit)To those who have had success with ZA, can you specify config, settings, options, etc, especially those on first run? Anything in particular to watch out for? Thanks

Reply: (edit)I have been using ZoneAlarm for 6 months on a Duron 950 / 384 RAM / Win 98SE / Dial Up Not a hint or trouble ! I have it set to HIGH security for both Local and Internet. The only programs I allow to connect are... Internet Explorer Outlook Express Get Right download manager AVG antivirus update PopUp Killer I check it every now and then with Shields Up and the result is always that the computer is highly secure. At first, I had it set to show the alert window - but you have to keep clicking it off, and that got tiresome after a while. So, then I disabled the alert popup window, and now a little miniature alert flashes on the taskbar over the ZA icon. I would definitely recommend it. Can't give an opinion on uninstalling it, as I haven't tried and don't want to uninstall it anyways.

Reply: (edit) Just follow the instruction and some clicks and u go. If I were you i would adjust the security settings both Local and Internet as Highest level. Than i will give permit to some of my apps to connect BUT dont give an app as Server access unless it doesnt work otherwise

Reply: (edit)Zone Alarm is free. Try to get versiion 2.6 and NOT 3.0 as 3.0 is coming out as being know as using a lot of resources.

Reply: (edit)I have used ZA for about 2 months. I was a little skeptical at first because I read about a few people who claimed that their systems crashed - some right away, some after a few months, some after a year. After speaking with someone close who knows about computers and hearing their theory on ZA and the feedback received on the website (i.e. "come on, about 300 people have had bad experiences out of thousands who have tried ZA..") I said, you're right the chances of something going wrong are probably less than 5%. Well....I was wrong. Today my computer crashed, and I am mad as hell!!! I tried uninstalling ZA and it's like it latched onto my windows OS. The True Vector portion - whatever that is decided it wanted to stay or it was not going down without a fight. Finally after many distressed conversations over the phone, I was able to sign on. My advice to others is DON'T USE ZA, OR YOU'LL EVENTUALLY PAY!!!!!
