I have a broadband connection, am I loosing out on download & upload speed by using the secondary connecting because the Win MX on screen text states the primary connection is for broadband & the other one for slower dial up's Regards, David.

..i'm sure there are others more knowledgable on this subject. However, i speak from my own experience as a broadband user. It is not a problem being connected to the secondary connection. Speed varies according to the connection of your download source. I've never attempted to tinker with the normal settings WinMx provide. If you have a firewall, which you would be advised to have - (not familiar with Zone Alarm, but sure others will advise) i believe you will only be able to use the secondary connection anyway as certain ports are open for downloads and uploads. I believe other ports are blocked by the firewall in the primary connect. With Symantec firewall you have to 'permit' access in your security settings. Hope this is helpful.

Running it as suggested won't change your dowload or upload speeds. It does, very slightly, limit the maximum number of online users your search queiry goes out to but with the huge number of people using WinMX ver. 3.3 it certainly won't be something you'd notice. Best to run behind your firewall and give up a tiny bit of "search" performance in the trade.

I have Winmx & Zone Alarm and use a secondary connection. I think the download speed depend mainly on your & the other persons mode of internet access ie I have Broadband and get slow download rates but occasionally I get a very fast download rate suggesting it's because the other person also has Broadband. Downloads from official web sites go like a rocket.
