Comment:

I installed ZA Personal Security Suite shortly after building this computer last year; I have a current subscription and keep anti-virus and anti-spyware updated.

Lately, ZA (automatically) downloads anti-virus updates, but "anti-spyware update...is not responding." This has happened for about two weeks. Of course, there is no way to query ZA about this directly. I wonder if anyone else has had this problem and how it was solved.

Also, when I leave the internet and turn off my browser (I have a dial up connection), and attempt to enter a different program, I get the following ZA Security Alert:

" NTVDM.exe is attempting to monitor user activities on this computer....if allowed it may try to log keystrokes, mouse movements..." and so forth. I always click "Deny," but wonder what is causing this problem and how I solve it.

I run the AV and Anti-spyware every several days to check out the system, and haven't experienced any problems. Also, I have Spybot Search & Destroy v1.3 which I use as a secondary anti-spy/ad backup. Between the two programs, I believe my system is clean (or as clean as I can make it).

Your thoughts appreciated. -- Judy

Hi

this could be a trojan or nothing at all , depends where NTVDM.exe is located , run a search with view system and hidden files.

some trojan attacks disable the update feature you mention so could be related.

try either an online scan or install a free version eg antivirus avast.com home edition is free.

in the mean time use ZA to block NTVDM access to internet until your satisfied its safe.

Thanks very much. I will try the AV you suggest and keep using ZA in "deny" mode until I figure this out.
