Reply: (edit)I think you meant to say 'unencrypted'. If it is not encrypted it means that anything you do on that website can be seen by other people. Therefore, you should never submit any sensitive information into an unencrypted webpage, eg credit card numbers. You can tell if a website uses encryption to secure sensitive information by looking at the start of the URL. If it starts with 'HTTP' (hypertext transport protocol), then it does not use encryption. However, if it starts with 'HTTPS' then it does use encryption and is safe to sumbit sensitive information. The additional 'S' stands for Secure as in Secure Sockets Layer (or SSL), which is just the type of encryption used.
