Specs: Windows XP
On all browsers, on both computers in the house, we cannot get to yahoo or any of its sub domains (mail is the pain point). All other web sites work. I think something came through Yahoo mail and caused this, as we were getting fake chat messages for a couple of days. Help!!

Yahoo won't load unless you allow them to place cookies on your system.
open IE Tools, Internet Options, Privacy tab, click Edit in the Web Sites box, type in the Yahoo web address and click "Allow".
Also you can try going to Control Panel, Network connections, right click on your ISP, click on properties, click on the tab that says networking, and the button that says settings...make sure the enable lcp is UNchecked! That will cause it sometimes.

I have resolved the issue. it was not cookies or any browser settings. I downloaded and ran several anti-spyware programs on top of the full Norton 360 subscription I already have. Seems they are all good at finding different things. The final solution came when I updated to the latest version of Ad-Aware (Free version). It knocked out two malware files that must have been the culprits. These files may have gotten on my computer when I was between subscriptions - yup, I let all my virus / spyware protection lag for a few weeks.

The interesting thing was that the problem was on one machine but affected both on my home network -- maybe because of a shared IP?

Problem solved.
