My yahoo mailbox is being flooded by email - 60 so far today, each seemingly being sent from different people, all strangers.
two things are in common with all of them.
1) the body of text says "see attachemnt for details", with nothing atached.
2) looking at the headers, each email originated from this IP:
from 170.110.108.3 (EHLO IAHCHB0887912) (170.110.108.3) by mta137.mail.sc5.yahoo.com with SMTP
I looked it up, its a department of commerce IP - do they have a virus?

Virus W32.Sobig.F@mm is going wild today and it is very possible it is that virus but from the information you gave, can't say if its that virus or not.

From what u say....."see attachment for details.....I would say very highly likely virus......DELETE EM....the from address could also have been spoofed so you really dont know for sure who it is from......another way of saying it...the worm on another persons puter that for whatever reason has your email address is screwing with the from address and it gets sent to you....the ip could even be spoofed....good email safety...never open attachments from those you don't know and if from someone you do know....be sure it is expected....if you delete one that you should not have...better safe than sorry and the person sending attachment can always send it again....Just as a side note over 90% of my email goes to junk pile....lotsa those new "sobig" virus email goin around.
with the emails comming with nothing attached it is possible your yahoo server has blocked those attachments from comming to you because they have typical dangerous attachments....such as .exe, .pif, .bat, .scr, .com, ....etc.. there are more
I don't use yahoo so I dont know exactly how it works....
A typical user would have no reason to recieve those attachments listed above ....so unless you are into trading progies and such in email...be glad they didn't come in....
Have a nice day and keep up with antivirus updates.

I am receiving lots of emails, at least 10 a day in my yahoo bulk email folder. It is clear that the emails are due to the sobig virus. They are all from different addresses with atttachments of about 100K that say "Re: my details", "Re: that movie", "Re: approved", "Re: wicked screensaver", and a few other titles. When I scan them with yahoo's scan attachement tool, yahoo reports the W32.sobig.F@mm virus found.
I have NOT been opening the attachments and deleting the emails.
However, because I am receiving so many emails with big attachments, it is causing me to go over my storage limit. Sometimes before I can get to my email to clear them out, I am already over my storage limit, and my yahoo email account starts bouncing back emails from people I do want to receive from.
Help!
Do I have the sobig virus because I am getting these emails? I read that the virus creates a thread to send email to all addresses it finds in my computer with certain extensions? But I ran the sobig Symantec virus removal tool which told me that I don't have any sobig files.
Is there anyway to stop receiving all of these emails with these big attachements that are clogging up my account?
