Hi there,
Got yaha.e. virus on my windows ME computer since 23/06/02 (it slows everything down big time!)and have tried to get rid of it by changing registry (according to Symantecs guidelines) but this virus prevents me from running several prgms. Even after reversing changes the worm made in my registry I could not run NAV...so, yaha.e is still in my OS. Could use some useful feedback!
THANKS in advance!

So you changed the Shell/Open value??If you run Regedit, is the key still "fixed"?

Let's look at your startups.

Do Start > run > msinfo32.

On the left side, select software environment and then Startup Programs.
Then Edit > Select All
Edit > Copy

Then paste the list back into this thread

The problem with this virus is that some generations are able to outwit task manager and not show themselves as running. Then everytime you attempt to change the registry, the virus program immediately changes it again.

yahatool at

ftp://ftp.europe.f-secure.com/anti-virus/tools/yahatool.zip

should clear it from your system.

If it doesn't, download The Cleaner from moosoft.com and use the TCActive tool to locate the virus program running (it will have a four letter name and will have created a .txt in your windows directory) and terminate it. Then you can change the registry and it it will stay at the value you have set. You will also need to delete the viruses hidden .exe file from the recycled bin. Windows explorer sometimes does not "see" these even if you have selcted "show all files" but you can get rid of them by running winfile via the Run... option from the start menu. Any problems, let me know......
