For quite some time now I've had the message "Updates are ready for your computer. Please click here to download these updates" and whenever Id click the little Yellow Update shield, the "Choose updates to download" dialogue window pops up with nothing to select. I have Automatic updates set to "Notify me but don't automatically download or install them" I prefer being able to choose what is installed and when. I thought It was a little strange so I went directly to the windows update site and made sure I was up to date. As I expected I was, since I always update my OS regularly. It did however say that an important download had been switched off (I didnt want to install MS genuine advantage and requested that I am not reminded of its absence)..

Why the hell is this yellow shield icon still there when my machine doesn't require updating? Why does the message "Updates are ready for your computer. click here to download these updates" if there are non to download..after all I requested that I would not be reminded of the one I deselected..and even so..that update does not appear in the download box anyway.

Please help

I repeat, I have no updates to download, yet the yellow update notification says otherwise and just will not go away.

I know there are no updates for me since I checked directly with the updates site. the only update I refused has been restricted from re-requesting I install it.

Have you tried disabling auto update and rebooting to see if the icon reappears?
