Subject: XP won't log on corrupt registry
OS: XP

Model/Manufacturer: Microsoft
Comment:

My computer won't start up/log on at all. I am using Windows XP home edition. I have tried booting in safe mode etc but it comes up with the same error message every time at the log on screen: "the configuration registry database is corrupt". I was able to log on a few times when this message first showed, when logged on i noticed some icons on my desktop that i had not seen before, called "yinstall", "a" and some others which i deleted. Now, I cannot log on at all no matter what I do. I am very lost.

If you have an XP disc, try doing an sfc /scannow and if you can't get your PC booted, try an XP repair install.

Try booting into safe mode once again and choose "last known good configuration" the follow the prompts.

Should it let you to windows go to start> control panel> add/remove programs> scroll down to and uninstall msn messenger.

Post back and let us know if you were able to do this please.
