Specs: Windows XP
Hi,

I recently formatted my laptop and installed xp sp2. everything went fine except that XP security center. The xp security pop up keeps warning me about the virus, so I disabled the xp security service through control panel. but still the xp security center icon sits in the taskbar and keep annoying me.Whenever I open the IE it prevents me to browse. If I open IE it will show up and i cannot continue further. I wanted to Install norton antivirus prg but not able to connect to the net. Pl. help me to get rid of this. How to take it out from the startup programs? Thank you.

Trust me you do not want norton. Is this the built in XP security? Do you mean it telling you no anti virus is installed? Or it could be a rogue software but you said you have not been online? Please explain more details.

Yes, it is built in security in XP sp2. It pops up for every 3-4 seconds and says fake virus in your system and buy that software. It prevents me to open any thing. If I open IE then also same message and automatically scans the computer.

Yes maleware bytes. And I use AVG bit avast is also good. AVG has a boot CD you can use. I had bad luck the lasttime I used the AVG boot CD. But in order to get maleware bytes you may have to download it to a jump drive and then install it on the infected PC.
