read about it where?

How would cell phone users gain access to a computer? If they wanted to gain access to your computer, they'd use a computer which has sophisticated tools. Cell phones can't do much....

if you want to worry about something...worry about the hackers who are hacking your xp computer right now with their computers. xp has builtin backdoors that are on by default...that's how i got hacked even though i had made sure my computer had enough security on it (i knew about the flaw, but didn't think they could do much with it...just look around the computer, perhaps...but once they got in and started changing stuff, i decided to cover the hole)

Every so often my firewall software shows me a message that some one is getting remote access to my pc from a mobile phone. I don't have my system set up for that and I think I am being hacked and I like to know how to stop this action.

how is your system set up? home network? or standalone?

disable netbios
then disable the "server" service if your computer is by itself. That way, it won't act as a server for the guy.

windows xp comes with default backdoors...for example, use google.com to search for "null sessions". That's how I was hacked...even though I had my firewall and antivirus configured to be bloodhounds (the antivirus got alot of cpu utilization and used maximum heuristics...on create, modify, move of any file...and the firewall blocked everything...each program needed a specific rule to gain access to the net). But they simply just logged into the windows xp backdoor, and tada...I was hacked.

Go to start->control panel->administrative options->event viewer. Try to find out what they've been doing (by checking the logs). Also use the firewall logs to report the hacks...

Also, not sure if works in XP, I dual boot with ME/XP Pro and when I am online, I use a dos command from the dos window to see my connections.

Just go to a dos window and type netstat and then enter. It may take a few seconds, but it will tell u your connections.

the person doesn't seem so computer literate, so she might have misread the message. Or, she might be the victim of a prank (having a program reporting it). I've never heard of a cell phone being able to hack a computer with a firewall on it...and i don't know how a computer will recognize that it's a mobile phone (and not a computer) trying to connect to it...

then again, america is so behind the times in the cell phone world...i know in other countries the cell phones are so much more advanced. But i've never heard of such a thing before

If cell phones can surf the web, which they can, is it possible that they could be used to hack or attempt to hack?

One other note. Some cell phone companys now offer fixed wireless internet access. So it could be a laptop or desktop that is using one of these fixed wireless connections.
